The Edakulangara Temple is the abode of the Supreme Goddess Ambika, honored as Vana Durga, exuding a tranquil aura. Many centuries ago, a group of Brahmins from the Puliyoor Matom in Chengannur arrived at a lakeside close to Karunagapally following a tumultuous event. With the support of local landlords, they established themselves close to a large pond. Among these Brahmins was a knowledgeable scholar who was a devoted follower of the Devi. Enthralled by his mantra chanting, a woman chose to meditate alongside him, embracing him as her guru. One day, she noticed an unusual object in the pond, simultaneously sinking and floating, and she alerted her guru to it. Yet, the Brahmana couldn't perceive it. Upon touching his body, he could suddenly see the object and identified it as a stone infused with unique divine energy. With the help of certain noble landowners, it was then enshrined in the sanctum for worship. The location was called Edakulangara, and the nearby area was referred to as Puliyoorvanchi, in tribute to the Brahmins who arrived by boat from Puliyoor.
