Blackburn signed striker, Shefki Kuqi, on a free transfer in the summer of 2005 after the player's contract had come to an end at Ipswich Town. With the Rovers' frontline for the 2005/06 season consisting of smaller framed strikers in the form of Craig Bellamy and Paul Dickov, Shefki provided an alternative striking option. The Finnish striker's stocky and bulky build made him an ideal budget target man, who the more agile and speedy forwards in the squad could play off and combine with. Shefki made 41 appearances in all competitions in his first season at Rovers and scored 8 times. Seven of those goals came in the Premier League, with his other goal arriving as part of a stunning Rovers comeback in a League Cup tie against Charlton at The Valley. Kuqi made 15 starts in the Premier League and came off the bench 18 times. The form of Craig Bellamy and Paul Dickov meant that Kuqi had to play more of a squad role, but nevertheless, he managed to play his part in helping Rovers to a top 6 finish in the Premier League as well as the club reaching the semi finals of the League Cup. During his time as Rovers player, Shefki bagged a couple of important braces against West Brom and Middlesbrough respectively, leading to two Rovers wins. One of his most memorable goals came in a 3-2 win against West Ham at Ewood Park when the forward bustled his way past the Hammers defence and crashed in the winning goal via the crossbar. The 2005/06 was to be Shefki's only full season as a Rovers player. Come the summer of 2006, it was clear that Rovers and manager, Mark Hughes, had other plans for the striking positions as the club brought in four new strikers in the form of Benni McCarthy, Shabani Nonda, Jason Roberts and Francis Jeffers. Shefki was no longer in the manager's plans and was allowed to leave Rovers in late August 2006 to join Crystal Palace for £2.5m. Kuqi did make one sub appearance in the early stages of the 2006/07 season before leaving, coming off the bench against Portsmouth, but he wasn't to score for Rovers again. Shefki Kuqi is fondly remembered for his famous belly flop celebration upon scoring a goal and for the role he played in Rovers enjoying a fantastic 2005/06 season. A season where Rovers ended only four points away from a Champions League place. The flying Finn made 42 appearances for Rovers in all and scored 8 goals. Here are those goals.
