Part 2 The World in Action closing theme accompanied by a slideshow of thought provoking images of Britain's recent past. The 1970s, an era when it appeared that the world was going to hell in a handcart. In hindsight, some of us look back on the decade as a golden era compared to these strange days of mistrust, political correctness, wokeism and celebrity. In those days the streets and fields were full of children playing - tag, ball, hopscotch, skipping and the like. In the holidays we would be out from morning to night, carefree and innocent. We would arrive home just as the sun was setting, with grazed knees, bruises and scrapes - all from a day's play. Our parents would tend our cuts and grazes with TCP, germoline and sticking plasters and send us on our way to plan our next adventures. We'd be fine - no need for a trip to casualty or being wrapped in cotton wool. We were tough. It was a time when neighbours would look out for each other, feed each others children, be on friendly terms, share the gossip of the day. All sadly lacking these days I would suspect. Of course in the adult world the 1970s were a time of much social and political upheaval with the Three Day Week, strikes, mass unemployment, power-cuts, the Winter of Discontent and of course 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland. The numerous images in this slideshow, reflect these long gone times, both from a child and an adult perspective. See part 1 here: • World In Action closing theme
