Takachiho Gorge, Remote Waterfalls, Rugged Coastline, and a Giant Tree.

A quick two night trip to Miyazaki Prefecture. On the way we stopped to see a giant Camphor tree with the widest circumference of any tree in Japan. We spent the night near the coast close to a temple and strolled along the rocky beaches in the morning. From there we went inland and visited some beautiful waterfalls. They were well off the beaten path and we only encountered one other person at each of them. Our main destination was Takachiho Gorge, one of Kyushu's most famous attractions. It was pretty busy and all the rental boats were sold out for days. However, the walk was much longer and nicer than we expected and we left fully satisfied. The driving through the mountains around there was beautiful.
