Welcome to my Istanbul SAW Airport walking tour video, one of the largest and busiest airports in Turkey. Join me as we navigate through the stunning 'Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport' (SAW) departure terminal, which is one of two international airports serving Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey. Located 32 km southeast of the city center, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is in the Asian part of the bi-continental Istanbul and serves as the hub for Anadolu Jet (AJet) and Pegasus Airlines. The airport has two terminals, one for domestic flights and one for international flights. The airport was opened in 1955 and has been growing ever since, with a new terminal being added in 2005. The airport is named after Sabiha Gokcen, a Turkish aviator who became the first female combat pilot in history. Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Turkey with more than 18 million passengers traveling through it each year. At the second part of this video, after our walking tour at the airport, we will have a take off and landing experience with Pegasus airlines A321 Airbus flying from Istanbul to Bodrum. Enjoy! I recommend flying to Sabiha Gökcen Airport, if you’ve booked your hotel on the Asian side of the city. But keep in mind, there is a larger airport on the European side called Istanbul Airport. From Sabiha Gökcen, you have four options to get to the city center. Metro: From\To Sabiha Gökcen, the M4 metro line connects directly to Kadiköy. If you’re heading to Taksim Square or vice versa, you’ll need to transfer at Ayrılık Çeşmesi to the Marmaray and then at Yenikapı to the M2 metro line. The journey to Kadiköy takes 50 minutes and to Taksim Square around 1 hour 40. However if you are staying on the European side, I recommend flying into Istanbul Airport instead. The biggest advantage of the metro is low cost and avoiding traffic. However, if you are travelling with a lot of luggage, it can be quite tiring. Bus: Your second option is a bus ride with Havas to city center like Kadikoy or Taksim. Taxi: Next are taxis. There are actually three categories to choose from: yellow, turquoise, and black taxis. Yellow taxis are the standard option. VIP Shuttle: Lastly, there’s the VIP shuttle service. These vehicles offer more comfort.
