PLEASE NOTE: CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL This is Ronald Poppo after a horrific attack by a man who chewed his face. The 65-year-old homeless man lost his nose and is now blind in one eye. He also suffered a brain injury although the damage isn't permanent. Hospital officials in Miami released the pictures on Tuesday. SOUNDBITE: DOCTOR WROOD KASSIRA, PLASTIC SURGEON AT JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, SAYING (English): "When Mr Poppo arrived, clearly he had suffered very devastating injuries to his face. You really couldn't make out his identity or what his facial features were before the trauma." This is what Poppo looked like before the attack. The man who inflicted the injuries, Rudy Eugene, was shot dead by police when he refused to stop. He was naked at the time and police say he may have been under the influence of a stimulant known as bath salts. Doctors say Poppo is temporarily blind in his remaining eye but otherwise recovering well. SOUNDBITE: DOCTOR NICHOLAS NAMIAS, CHIEF OF TRAUMA, JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, SAYING (English): "He's pleased to report to all of you that he's feeling well, he's eating, he's walking around with physical therapy, he's talking with us. He's had quite a bit of surgery already by doctor Kassira here to my right, and there's still a bit more to go." A fund launched by the hospital to pay for Poppo's medical costs has raised about 15, 000 dollars. Paul Chapman, Reuters
