https://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/shop/cat... The renovation of this Victorian Tiled Hallway in Garstang Lancashire started by focusing on the edges first. To do this a set of hand-held Diamond Blocks of different grits were use to remove ingrained dirt and gets the tiles super clean. The pads are worked into the tile using water starting with a coarse Green pad and then working through the finer Black and Red blocks before finishing on the very fine grit Yellow block. For the main floor a large 200-Grit Milling pad fitted to a rotary floor buffer was scrubbed into the floor with Tile Doctor Oxy-Gel which is a low moisture cleaning agent. This generates a lot of slurry which is removed afterwards with a wet vaccum which is far more effective than a mop and bucket. The pad was then switched to a Black buffing pad which was then worked into the tiles using Tile Doctor Acid Gel which is another low moisture cleaning product. Its acidic nature counters any effloresenct salt issues that may have built up in the floor and also neutralises the tiles after the use of Oxy-Gel earlier which is an alkaline products. The tiles were then given a final clean with a brush and water and then a final vaccuum to remove as much moisture as possible. After leaving it to dry overnight we called back the next day to apply two coats of Tile Doctor X-Tra seal. This is a fully breathable Oil based sealer that soaks into the pores of the tile adding structure and protection. Once applied the oil is well polished into the tiles with a White buffing pad to remove any excess. The sealer helps lift the natural colours in the tile and leaves a slight sheen finish. For the aftercare of Victorian floor tiles we recommend Tile Doctor Neutral Tile Cleaner which is a mild yet effective tile cleaning product that won't impact the sealer.
