When German soldiers discarded their medals in the final weeks of World War II, they left behind more than metal. The position and condition of the pin systems can reveal whether these awards were removed calmly… or in panic. In this short WWII Relic Story, I examine original battlefield finds and explain what bent pins, broken hinges, and carefully opened clasps may indicate about the final moments before surrender in 1945. Some medals appear to have been removed deliberately. Others were clearly torn off in haste. Eighty years later, the backs of these awards still tell a human story — not of victory or defeat, but of fear, uncertainty, and survival. All relics shown were legally recovered in accordance with local heritage laws. — WWII Relic Story is a short-format documentary series focused on authentic battlefield relics and the untold human moments behind them. — Sources: „German POW captured in Belgium, 3 September 1944“ (Imperial War Museums / Sgt.
