Injured Elephant sought the help of water to soothe the pain in his leg

It was a busy day for wildlife officials. They got a news about an injured elephant due to gunfire. His left front leg has injured with gunshot. The situation worsened as the wound has been infected. The residents near the forest have noticed this elephant limping with great difficulty. They informed the wildlife officers regarding the innocent victim. The elephant has been used to visit the river bordering to the forest and spend hours in water to soothe the pain from the infected wound. At the time when the team of wildlife officers visit for help, the elephant was dipping his leg in water to alleviate the pain. This elephant is living in a thick forest. Therefore it is not sure whether the officers would be able to find him again for treatment. So they had to take quick and long term action to heal the infection of the elephant. On the other hand the elephant showed a bit aggressive behavior. So it is not wise to getting closer to the elephant at once for treatment. Considering all the circumstances, the veterinary surgeon decided to follow special method of treatment to heal the infection of this elephant using the tranquilizer gun. Usually the tranquilizer gun is used to sedate the elephant. But this time the tranquilizer gun is used for direct insertion of medicines in to elephant’s body. The blow pipe of the tranquilizer gun was loaded with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories instead of anesthetic drugs. Then darted with the tranquilizer gun. They had to dart the elephant when it is in water. Because they had to take quick action before the elephant vanish in the thick, dark forest. The first dart hit in the hind leg of the elephant. He showed an anguish reaction when the dart hit the body. It is dangerous to hang out around a wild elephant especially when they are in pain. Officers had to run away considering their safety. In the history, some wildlife officers have deprived their lives after being attacked by the wild elephants during the treatment operations. The elephant was limping with pain and came out of the river. Then hobbled towards the forest. The team followed the elephant as it is needed to give several doses of antibiotics according to the huge weight of the elephant. They darted the elephant, taking the aim through the woods. The second dart hit the front leg of the elephant. The elephant couldn’t figure out what is happening. He showed his anger by scattering the dusts all its body. But the officers didn’t give up. They had to give more shots of antibiotics to expedite the healing of the infection in gunshot injured wound. When the dart hit the elephant’s body the antibiotics and anti-inflammatories loaded in the blow pipe are administered in to elephant’s body. Then the antibiotics are blended with the blood circulatory system of the elephant and boost the immunity to heal the infection in elephant’s leg. The anti-inflammatory drugs would be helpful to reduce the swelling in the infected leg. The elephant is to be treated again after two days.
