Ciao cacao! In 2023, I ran the Berlin marathon for a UK-based charity. This organization helps homeless people, and I had to raise 800 pounds for them. I live in Norway and have never been homeless myself. Why would I raise money for a charity that has nothing to do with me? Well, I just really wanted to run my first major marathon and that was the way of doing it. How does a charity entry work? A bunch of charities get places on the marathon, and they "sell" them for donations. Basically, you choose one charity from a list and apply to run for it. Then, you have to pledge to collect a certain amount of money as a donation to them. In my case, it was 800 pounds. How did I choose a charity? Did I really want to support homeless people in the UK? I'm not going to lie; I sorted all the charities by the amount of money they were asking to collect for them. 800,- was the minimum, but many others were around 2000,- pounds. I knew it would be extremely difficult for me to collect money for this specific charity that has nothing to do with me personally or Norway. So, I assumed that the biggest donation would come from my pocket anyway. And that's how I chose the charity. Simple.
