The Grace Ukulele Part 1

This is the first video of two showing the restoration of an ukulele that I found in a second-hand store on Oahu. There aren’t any markings to show who made it but it resembles many ukuleles from the 1950s to the 1980s. It has a plastic fretboard and was probably a low-cost starter instrument. The uke is in bad shape and it is clear that the bridge has been crudely reattached. The glue has started to degrade and the wood lamination of the soundboard and backboard are starting to separate. In this first part, I was able to disassemble the uke, reglue the layers of wood on the soundboard, and fix the nicks and missing pieces on the soundboard and backboard. I sand the body and neck down to clean wood and then stain and apply a French polish before reattaching the neck to the body of the uke.
