Join us for an analysis of film footage held by the U.S. National Archives; now newly digitized with the research and funding of Mr. Yusuke Orita. In his fascinating exploration into rarely studied Pacific War film footage, Mr. Orita identifies Japanese and American ships, planes, locations and crew. Our speaker, Mr. Orita, graduated from Kochi University in 2009 with a major in Japanese History and has spent over a decade meticulously collecting and analyzing motion picture records from the U.S. National Archives. Since 2012, he has identified and published details on more than 400 filming locations across the Pacific theater, connecting dates, places, and the military units involved. In this webinar, Mr. Orita will share insights from his extensive research, revealing how Japanese and American reports provide context to archival footage and deepen our understanding of the Pacific War. Attendees will gain a greater appreciation for the role of film as both a historical record and a tool for piecing together untold aspects of wartime events.
