Hello friends, welcome back to Songs From Home, episode 27: “Why Walk When You Can Fly” Years ago I lived in an old apartment building that had a noisy air conditioner, thin walls and creaky floors. I remember it was late summer, hot and humid, as it invariably is in Virginia in August, and I was working on this song but needed to break out of that stuffy old apartment and get some air. It was late, the streets were quiet, the air was sticky, and I must have walked a few miles just quietly singing the lyrics over and over until I got them where I wanted them. Some song walking on a hot summer night was just what I needed… With Matt Rollings (www.MattRollings.com) at the piano, this song become both the opening and closing track of my 1994 LP “Stones In The Road”…Matt’s beautiful, lyrical, intuitive performance of this song has always taken me to a deeper place when I hear it. He has a new album of his own, “Matt Rollings Mosaic”, and it’s fantastic, with guests like Vince Gill, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Alison Krauss, The War and Treaty, Lyle Lovett and so many other greats. I hope you’ll look for it. With July just around the corner, it feels so strange to be home at this time…I miss our playing outdoors on summer stages, sweating like crazy, dancing like fiends, singing at the top of our lungs, and most of all, being together. Here at the farm, we are keeping the faith and practicing our super powers... Until the next time, stay well, stay strong, wear your mask and #staymighty! #whywalkwhenyoucanfly #stonesintheroad #songsfromhome #blueridgemountains #virginia #summer #angus #farm #home #stayhome #withme #patienceismysuperpower #weareallconnected #staythefuckhome
