Dr. Bryan Kramer Harvests Patient's Femoral Vein to Create New Aorta

Bill Wilson enjoyed gardening and an active lifestyle until one day he woke up with excruciating back pain that landed him in the ER. Tests indicated that his aorta had an aneurysm on it and he was referred to Dr. Bryan Kramer, vascular surgeon at Vascular Institute of the Rockies. Further scans indicated that Bill actually had an infection in his infra-renal aorta, which is a very unusual problem to have. If surgery didn’t take place, the prognosis did not look good. Surgery involved three surgeons- two harvested his femoral vein from his leg and one removed the infected piece of his aorta. The harvested vein from his leg was sewn in place to create a new aorta. Bill is thankful to Dr. Kramer and the VIR team for saving his life and enabling him time to spend with his family.
