The Israeli army said the operation was part of routine activity in the area and did not specify the goals of the operation. Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of the northern Gaza strip town of Beit Hanoun on Sunday for the funeral of two Palestinians killed a day earlier in an Israeli missile attack. A third Palestinian killed in the attack was buried on Saturday night. Relatives of the three casualties said they were all civilians - bankers who were having a picnic in an open field when the missile struck. The Israeli military confirmed the missile strike, but said it targeted Palestinian militants on their way to fire mortar shells at Israel. Palestinian militants in Gaza launch near-daily salvos of rockets and mortars towards southern Israeli towns and communities. Also on Sunday, trucks carrying supplies such as diesel, cooking gas and food crossed the border between Israel and Gaza strip. Israel allows limited supplies to enter the Hamas-ruled Gaza, despite border closures imposed after the Hamas takeover in June. Israel further limited the movement of people and goods during a spike in rocket fire from Gaza in recent weeks. The closure has been accompanied by Israeli-imposed fuel and electricity reductions. In Jerusalem on Sunday, Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert held a weekly cabinet meeting at his office, ahead of leaving for an official visit in Japan. The meeting focused mainly on internal issues. Olmert is under intense pressure at home to halt daily rocket fire from Gaza on Israel and free an Israeli soldier held for the past 20 months by Hamas-allied militants. Olmert has been talking with Hamas, via Egypt, about a prisoner swap. Israel's generals are divided over whether a swap should be linked to a cease-fire, with some warning a truce will only strengthen Hamas.
