My brother, sister-in-law, and I planned a surprise homecoming for my parents. It’s, unfortunately, rare for our entire family to get together for the holidays. Having recently undergone a renal autotransplant surgery, living four hours apart, having older children with obligations, and pets to look after- OH and don't forget about the pandemic, all make it rather difficult for our families to gather together. My mother has been really emotional about not having her kids and grandkids around during the holidays so, this year, we gave her a rather good surprise. Her reaction was priceless. I'm a wife, mom to 5 kids, and a chronic illness warrior, and have a full-time career. I am passionate about sharing my story in the hopes of raising awareness, connecting with others who are suffering, and supporting their caregivers. While staring death in the eyes, one of my biggest regrets was not documenting monumental moments in my family's lives.
