Morocco in December, a trip in the low season. We experienced temperatures ranging from about 5 degrees in the morning (flip flops just won't do) to more than 20 some afternoons. The first episode is from the first two days, which we spent in Marrakesh. Some shopping and getting a birds view of Marrakesh in Menara Mall the first evening. On day two we walk to the center of the city, passing the old Medina walls, to see the Koutoubia Mosque and the market place Jamaa el Fna, where we have a lovely cup of Maroccan mint tea (recommended!) and a coffee. We then walk into the souk area beyond the plaza itself, visit some leather tanneries (we get "lured" by some very eager locals), and we finally go to the beautiful botanical garden Jardin Majorelle (Yves St. Laurent garden). A tip for those of you who want to see the leather tanneries: If you haven't booked and payed for the trip in advance, don't accept "you can pay whatever you want" as an answer to your question about price ;) And be prepared to be lead into a shop for leader products at the end of the tour, where you are expected to buy something.
