As we get ready to kick off a new year, let's look back at The Past. The Old Man / Chess Player in Menotti's cryptic made-for-TV opera "Labryinth" represents the past. Dispensing trite advice and luring The Groom (Junhan Choi, baritone) into a seemingly endless game of chess, The Old Chess Player (Patrick Bessenbacher, tenor) tests the patience of The Groom and The Bride (Emma Robertson, soprano) alike as they search for their room -- and the meaning of life -- in the metaphorical maze of the Grand Hotel. "Labyrinth" aired in 1963 and has long been called "unstageable". Well, we staged it!
