(27 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRES Koya, Irbil, Iraq - 26 February 2026 1. Wide of old military base occupied by Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) in Koya district of Irbil 2. Armed members of KDPI walking near base 3. KDPI members standing at entry checkpoint to their base 4. People entering room inside the base 5. Pictures of former KDPI members on wall 6. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “We have high hopes that it (Iranian regime) will meet its fate this time. Because the Islamic Republic has lost its legitimacy, the Islamic Republic is isolated from the international community, and the Islamic Republic has become the source of instability, not only for the Middle East, but for the entire world.” 7. Various of armed KDPI members guarding the base 8. Close of Kurdistan and KDPI flags in the room 9. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “If a foreign government sent military force and soldiers to Iran, it could topple the regime but might be not able to run the people and the country, as it couldn’t run Afghanistan and faced problems there. However, with the help of the people inside Iran, with the help of ethnic nations in Iran, the Kurds, the Turks, the Arabs, the Baluch, and others, it can topple the regime and secure a better future for Iran.” 10. Various of armed KDPI members walking by the base 11. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “We, as the alliance of (Kurdish) political forces, haven’t requested the division of Iran. We did not demand self-administration for each nation separately or to have an own country. As rights, it is the right of every nation to have self-determination and having their own country, but we did not request that, and we don’t think it is the right path. The path that we have now and believe is the right thing to do, is that for now, and through other nations, through closeness to other nations, we can run and become partners in ruling the (regime) changed Iran.” 12. Various of KDPI base in Koya 13. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “Until now, we don’t have systematic or Peshmerga activities inside Iran. But as it has been mentioned on various occasions, this alliance will form a special committee and establish coordination to work together in diplomatic and relations aspects, to have a diplomatic committee that includes all these participant forces, and to have a committee that in case the Islamic Republic regime falls, (decides) how we are going to run Kurdistan, if we had a presence in eastern Kurdistan.” 14. Various of female peshmerga standing by checkpoint 15. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “We have been through ethnic cleansing and persecution and dictatorship (both) under the Pahlavi regime and under the Islamic Republic. These gave us the experience that we, the Kurds, must not think of cleansing ideology, or eliminate each other, but must always work together.” 16. Various of town and base in Koya 17. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Karim Parwizi, member of the leadership council of KDPI: “Even if there were no economic sanctions, no military attack by the U.S., or no international pressure, this regime has fallen among its own people. It can’t continue its governance. Therefore, it is the end for this regime. It is expired, and it will be gone.” 18. Various of people by base 19.
