Fluoro-Richterite Gibson Road East, Tory Hill, Haliburton Co., Ontario, Canada Size: 12.2 x 4.0 x 2.2 cm One of the top twins from this find. This is a superb elongated twin and is incredibly sharp and well-defined for its size. In excellent condition, minor chips in a couple of spots. The re-entrant at the top is super. This is a killer! About These Fluoro-Richterites These fluoro-richterite specimens were collected from the calcite vein-dike occurrences near Tory Hill, Ontario. Specimens from each of these occurrences have been analyzed by Glenn Poirier at the Canadian Museum of Nature (using electron microprobe) and confirmed to be fluoro-richterite. Although fluoro-richterite specimens are rare on a global basis, the Tory Hill occurrences are quite rich in the mineral. Even so, excellent crystals are not common. This series of occurrences has produced superb specimens, including the world’s best of the species. Indeed, these crystals are great for any amphibole species! (The amphibole group is often overlooked by collectors of fine minerals because so many crystals are not collection-worthy.) Many of these specimens have required lots of prep work to present at their best. For more about the Tory Hill vein-dikes, with lots of photos, click here: https://www.mcdougallminerals.com/blo...
