The Rudraprayag man-eating leopard was a notorious predator responsible for the deaths of over 125 people ( Unofficial count 4360,) in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India, between 1918 and 1926. The leopard terrorized the villages around Rudraprayag and became one of the most infamous man-eaters in history. The leopard's attacks were particularly notable because of its cunning and ability to evade capture, despite numerous attempts by hunters and local authorities. The big cat mainly targeted villagers, often dragging them from their homes or while they were walking through forests. The task of hunting down the leopard was eventually taken up by Jim Corbett, a renowned British-Indian hunter and conservationist. Corbett tracked and killed the leopard on May 2, 1926, after an extensive and dangerous pursuit. His account of the hunt is detailed in his book, Man-Eaters of Kumaon, where he explains the challenges and strategies involved in capturing the predator.
