Heading the wacky Sycamore family is Grandpa Vanderhof (Ric Goodwin), who for 35 years has confined his activities to hunting snakes, practicing dart throwing, attending commencement exercises, and ignoring his income tax payments. Equally uninhibited are his daughter Penelope (Dawn Carpenter), a playwright because a typewriter was delivered by mistake eight years ago; her husband Paul, who passes his time manufacturing fireworks in the cellar with Mr. De Pinna, a congenial delivery man who has been a house guest for eight years; Essie, who studies ballet in the living room; and Ed, who gets in trouble inserting radical messages in the candy boxes he peddles. Out of this manic clan somehow has come a normal daughter whose hopes of marrying the son of her wealthy boss are almost lost when his dignified family drop in the Sycamores on a night when they are not expected. You Can't Take It With You has won dozens of awards over the years including the 1937 Pulitzer Prize, the Best Picture Academy Award for Frank Capra's 1938 film version, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Revival of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Play for the 2015 stage version starring James Earl Jones. Of this recent revival The New York Times said, "A lot of shows can make you laugh. What's rare is a play that makes you beam from curtain to curtain." The New York Daily News described it as "a time-released happy pill." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You Can't Take It With You Written by: Moss Hart and George S.
