Historical biases in research, diagnosis, and treatment of disease have long resulted in limited or ineffective medical care for women. The National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993 requires the inclusion of women and minorities in NIH-funded clinical trials and has increased awareness of disparate health outcomes between men and women, although serious inequities continue to this day. In this Next in Science program, we explore innovative research and policy that address critical needs and improve health outcomes for women through the latest developments in public health, mental health, diagnosis and treatment, and drug discovery. The Next in Science series provides an opportunity for early-career scientists whose creative, cross-disciplinary, and cutting-edge research is thematically linked to introduce their work to nonspecialists, fellow scientists, and one another. Harvard Radcliffe Institute gratefully acknowledges the Melanie Mason and David W. Niemiec Fund for Science, which is supporting this event. 0:00 Welcome Edo Berger, codirector of the science program, Harvard Radcliffe Institute; professor of astronomy, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Session 1 6:29 Tara Castellano, assistant professor, clinical, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Talk title: “It’s (Still) a Man’s World: Doing More with Less in Women’s Health Research” 31:35 Victoria Brown, biology/drug discovery consultant, Versant Ventures Talk title: “The Case for Precision Medicine in Ovarian Cancer” For information about Harvard Radcliffe Institute and its many public programs, visit https://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/.
