John Jacob IV and his wife had their whole lives ahead of them when they were returning home on the Titanic. They had been on an extended honeymoon and they were ready to start fresh when they arrived back in New York. But you and I know that an iceberg stopped their plans. The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912. From Southampton, England to Cherbourg, France to an iceberg in the middle to the Atlantic Ocean at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912. Titanic went down on April 15, 1912 in the wee hours of the morning, taking John Jacob Astor IV with her - also taking a father away from John Jacob Astor VI. The water was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It was freezing. And even after being rescued, Madeleine would face days ahead that felt colder than that. We'll get into Madeleine's Titanic passenger story and real photos with the men who shared her life with her after the iceberg sank that Titanic - the ship that was holding her one true love. The most important man in her life was her son, John Jacob Astor IV. He lived in the shadow of his brother Vincent, and always resented him for receiving the lion's share of their father's estate. The other men in her life were two husbands. The second one was a sensible choice - a banker with a couple of millions of dollars to his name. The third husband was a poor boxer who was not good for Madeleine in any way. But the tumultuous relationship that the pair had was good for the press. It’s another Hot Mess History scandal from Ti.
