Great Smoky Mountains Railroad #1702 is an S160 steam locomotive built in 1942 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. She is a 2-8-0 Consolidation-type locomotive. She was stationed at the Fort Bragg Military Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina, for training purposes during WWII. After the war, she hauled lumber trains on the Warren and Saline River Railroad in Warren, Arkansas. When they switched to diesel power in 1961, #1702 went to the Reader Railroad in Hot Springs, AR. Eventually, she went to the Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railroad in Freemont, Nebraska. Finally, in 1991, she went to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, where she continues to operate today. Let’s watch her haul trains through the Nantahala River Gorge! Instagram: / northeasternrailfilms Want to request a video?
