KERLA STYLE GREEN PRAWN CURRY | elvisideas3968 #prawn #prawnrecipe #prawncurry #prawnmalaicurry #prawncurryindianrecipe #prawnrecipe #chingrimalaicurry #dhonepatachingri #seafoodrecipe #easyrecipe #coconutmilkcurry Green Prawn Curry, also known as Chemmeen Pachakari Curry or Green Chemmeen Curry, is a vibrant coastal dish from Kerala. Unlike the typical red or yellow prawn curries made with chili or turmeric, this version gets its fresh green hue and aroma from a blend of coconut, coriander leaves, curry leaves, and green chilies. It’s light, aromatic, and packed with coastal flavors — the sweetness of coconut perfectly balances the gentle heat from green chilies and the tang of tamarind or raw mango. Served with steamed rice or appam, it’s a refreshing twist to the traditional Kerala seafood fare. Ingredients For the Green Masala Paste: Fresh grated coconut – 1 cup Fresh coriander leaves – 1 small bunch Green chilies – 4–5 (adjust to spice level) Ginger – 1- inch piece Garlic – 5–6 cloves Curry leaves – 10–12 Cumin seeds – ½ tsp Small onion or shallots – 3–4 Water – as needed for grinding For the Curry: Prawns (cleaned and deveined) – 400 g Coconut oil – 2 tbsp Mustard seeds – ½ tsp Curry leaves – 6–8 Shallots (sliced) – 6–8 Salt – to taste Water – as needed Method Prepare the Green Paste: Grind all the ingredients under Green Masala Paste into a smooth paste using a little water. Keep aside. In a pan, heat coconut oil. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add curry leaves and sliced shallots, sauté till light golden. Add turmeric powder and stir for a few seconds. Pour in the green paste, sauté for 2–3 minutes on low flame until the raw smell disappears. Add tamarind pulp (or raw mango pieces) and clean prawns. Mix well, add ½ cup water (adjust consistency), cover, and cook for 5–7 minutes till prawns are cooked and curry thickens. Check salt and adjust tanginess or spice as needed. Drizzle a little coconut oil and a few curry leaves before turning off the heat for that signature Kerala aroma. Serve hot with steamed rice.
