In this week's meditation with Mahālīla, we contemplate the meaning of chanting Śāntiḥ three times. In the Vedic tradition, peace is invoked at three levels: • Ādhyātmika — the disturbances that arise from within: the body, the mind, our emotions, our reactivity. • Ādhibhautika — the challenges that come from the external world: people, situations, the environment. • Ādhidaivika — the unseen forces beyond our control: natural events, collective forces, the cosmic order governed by īśvara. When we chant “Śāntiḥ” three times, we are not asking for a superficial calm. We are aligning ourselves with the understanding that obstacles exist at all these levels — and that through knowledge, devotion, and inner preparation, the mind can remain steady. This meditation is an invitation to recognize where your disturbances arise and gently offer them into the space of awareness. May this practice help prepare the mind for self-knowledge. May there be clarity. May there be steadiness. May there be śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ. Thank you for being part of Mahālīla.
