The movie stars Kate Hudson, Billy Cruddup, Patrick Fugit, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jason Lee, Frances McDormand, Zooey Deschanel, Anna Paquin, and even Jimmy Fallon as characters based on real people that Crowe and worked with during his time as a magazine journalist in California's 70s rock n' roll era.
