A unique procedure of joint replacement surgery of both hips in one act with a direct anterior approach performed in the St. Catherine Hospital. The reason for the total hip replacement surgery is mainly pain and limitation of hip function. Mr. Aleksandar Škorić (39 years old), a former handball player, came to St. Catherine Specialty Hospital, because he suffered constant pain in the area of both hips, which led to the restriction of his daily activities. Trpimir Vrdoljak, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon, decided to simultaneously joint replacement surgery on both hips with a direct anterior approach. The direct anterior approach for total hip replacement is classified as a minimally invasive procedure because it does not cut the muscles as in other approaches which significantly speeds up recovery. Mr. Škorić got up on the second day after the operation with the help of crutches, and on the day of his discharge (the seventh day after the operation) he walked independently. In 2 to 3 weeks, the patient is expected to walk without crutches, also to drive the car on his own and walk up the stairs. The direct anterior approach performed by Trpimir Vrdoljak, M. D., and other orthopedists in our Hospital is a routine operation for all patients who are candidates for total hip replacement. https://www.stcatherine.com/ [email protected] +385 1 2867 400
