Born into a family of coppersmiths, Matéo Maximoff was already an avid reader as a child. He had taught himself to read. He noticed that only authors without any knowledge of Roma life as it really was wrote about them. The logical consequence for Maximoff: to write about his people himself. An important source of his works were ancient traditions relating to supernatural beings and powers, and stories from his ancestors. During the Second World War in France, writing became a survival necessity for Maximoff. After the end of the war, he used his skills as a writer and translator to draw attention to the hundreds of thousands of victims of the genocide of Roma and Sinti. »Roads Without Caravans« is a story full of hopes and dreams.
