This was a cracking session on the Hobie Lynx on the Georges River in Botany Bay. I headed out mid morning on an ideal tide to fish the pylons on Captain Cook Bridge and landed a swag of good Bream. I exclusively used the 5.9 gram Cranka Crab on the bridge pylons and came across some stud bream. I got dusted by one fish and had to upgrade the leader from 5lb to 10lb, which enabled me not only to stop the big fish, but also retrieve my lures when the got hung up on the bottom. There are a few little tips in here for fishing on bridges, and some of them were learnt the hard way. My preference for fishing Captain Cook Bridge is the tide and to some extent the wind. Although you can catch fish on both incoming and outgoing tides, I prefer the outgoing. And generally the first hour or two after the change. I have caught fish on both phases of course but I seem to have caught more fish on the outgoing tide. The Wind can also make this a hard place to fish in a kayak as if as an example you have an outdoing tide heading West, with an easterly wind it can make it hard to sit where you want especially when the wind is pushing you harder than the tide. I generally cast my lure up along the pylon with it returning towards me with the tide. I keep an eye on the slack line and slowly wind it up so I can detect a strike. This also allows the Crab to sink naturally in the current and gives you a great chance of a fish picking it up. Gear used: Shimano Zodias Rod 7ft 2-4kg with 3kg Kiariki braid and 10lb FC Rock fluorocarbon leader. Also 5lb FC Sniper Leader. Shimano Anarchy 6ft 6, 2-4kg Rod and Vanford 2500 reels. Cranka crab 5.9 gram in Sand , Brown and Olive. My favourite is Olive. Electronics: I recently mounted a Garmin UHD2 95SV 9 inch sounder which i love. It has the side scan and I really like using this to scan along the pylons and see where the fish may be holding. Sometimes they are just on one pylon and they can be on just one side so it can cut down on a lot of wasted time casting for no fish. Cameras: Gopro Hero 11 and 12. I lost one crab on the 5lb ( including the fish) but when i upgraded to 10lb i had a lot more pulling power and could also retrieve snagged lures easier. The 35 and 41cm Bream in this video were caught on 10lb leader. If you are finding you are not getting any fish you will need to drop down to 5lb, 4lb and hope for the best. Of course the fish are not always there and you just need to move on and fish another area. I hope you all enjoy this one. It was a lot of fun capturing the action. Cameras: Gopro Hero 11 and 12.
