Tom Beckstrand, rifles and optics editor for Guns & Ammo magazine, has a secret to tell: he learned more about rifle shooting as a PRS competitor than he did as a barrel-chested steely-eyed freedom fightin' Sniper Team Leader in the 3rd Special Forces Group. So what's "PRS"? Tom gives us an overview of what happens in a Precision Rifle Shooting match. It involves "positional shooting" from different positions using unconventional, real-world shooting rests. You have to get off 10 precise shots in 90 to 120 seconds at targets between 400 and 1,200 yards away. Oh - and you're shooting a bolt action rifle. You'll also need a good scope that can be quickly adjusted to different target distances, a bipod, and a ballistic calculator such as Hornady's 4DOF® smartphone app (it's FREE), and a shooting bag.
