A UK IPAC member Wera Hobhouse has been refused entry to Hong Kong to see her new born grandchild. IPAC is The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, an international group of Western countries' lawmakers to "promote democracy and addressing threats to the rules-based and human rights systems posed by the rise of China", according to the group's website. Currently, there are 240 members from 27 mainly Western countries' legislatures and the European Parliament. China considers IPAC a grouping of anti-China western parliamentarians, aiming to contain China's rise, to stir up disruption of Hong Kong public order and to support Taiwan separatist sentiment. IPAC member and UK Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse says she landed at Hong Kong airport on Thursday after a 13-hour flight - only to be detained by security, questioned, and put on a return flight to the UK. Ms Hobhouse has spoken out against Beijing's alleged human rights violations in both Hong Kong and Tibet. Earlier, iPAD spokeperosn stated that Ms Hobhouse`s being refused Hong Kong entry was obviously due to her membership of iPAC. It was therefore unrelated to her being a UK MP.
