Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday speaking in the Maharashtra Assembly said: The Maharashtra government was studying love jihad laws in other states and looking into which provisions should be implemented here, Now let me tell you why Devendra Fadnavis is actually contradicting his own government. Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that he would speak to the director general of police to create a standard operating procedure (SOP) for police stations. The SOP would deal with cases where an inter-religious marriage or courtship under a false pretext is followed by religious conversion. "To sensitize police stations to deal with such cases, an SOP needs to be formed. If timely action is taken, tensions within the communities can be avoided. If timely action is not taken, action will be taken against the policemen involved," Fadnavis said in the legislative assembly. Now let me tell you how Devendra Fadnavis is contradicting his government. In December last year, the Ministry of Women and child development set up a committee to probe inter-faith marriages. The committee has not received a single complaint till March last year. "The term 'Love Jihad' is not defined under the extant laws. No such case of 'Love Jihad' has been reported by any of the central agencies". I am not saying this, this was a response from Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy. When asked about cases of love Jihad in the country in 2020. Then why is there a requirement for a law for love jihad? Since last year when the Shinde - Fadnavis govt came to power, 50 Anti love jihad yatra's in the state were organized this year and you know what was the name of the yatra? Hindu Akrosh Morcha which translates to Hindu outrage rally. The central as well as state govt proudly calls itself a Hindutva Ideology govt. And then we see a Hindu outrage morcha which was attended by the Top brass of the BJP. Anti-Muslim statements, and calling for a social and economic boycott are all part of these protests. The mainstream media is equally responsible for this hate. Do you remember the Aftab Poonawala- Shradha walkar case? The media covered it with all its might. But do you remember a similar case had taken place where a live-in partner was murdered and he pressure-cooked some body parts, roasted others, and fed them to stray dogs? How many days was that case on the headlines? Hardly 2-4 days. Why? Because there was no communal angle attached to it. This attitude of you vs them will cause a massive divide in the state which is going to be a big loss to the state and its people. What we are seeing in Haryana is not something that has happened in a day or two it is the deeply rooted hate that has now reached its peak. Maharashtra has seen communal unrest in the past and it cannot afford to see them again. And it is your and my responsibility to ensure that this hate stops.
