Follow me on Instagram @volkswizard.co.uk Please support the channel by buying the Volkswizard 2023 calendar here for £10 plus £2.99 UK P&P - thanks to everyone who responded to the 'ad' in the last video https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385280054876 In this video I share with you the purchase of a Mk2 VW Golf GTI 8v which I sold to the last owner 18 years ago. The Mk2 Golf is the car which sparked my passion for Volkswagen. After a year getting a no claims bonus in a 1983 VW Polo CX, my second car in 1995 was a 1988 Mk2 Golf 1.6 CL and my third in 1996 was a 1990 Mk2 Golf GTI 8v 3dr in a very rare Medium blue metallic which was sadly stolen not long after purchase. I replaced it with a white 5 door 1990 8v with power steering (which was still an option on the 8v until the 1991 model year) and I kept that for 2.5 years, replacing it with a 1992 Mk3 Golf GTI 8v. After that I bought a Mk3 Golf GTI Anniversary which in 2002 was sold to start buying and selling cars (mainly Mk2s initially) under the Volkswizard banner. To be clear, the specs of the UK GTI 8V in the final 3 model years when it had big bumpers are as follows; 1990 model year (registrations from Oct 1990). Big bumpers but no power steering or electric windows or central locking or speakers in door cards, 14" steel wheels with silver centre caps were standard. Check interior with black piping and vinyl on back of front seats. (my car) 1991 model year (registrations from Oct 1990). Big bumpers, power steering, speakers in front door cards and central locking were now standard. 14" steels wheels with silver centre caps were standard. Ultra-violet diagnonal stripe interior, no piping or vinyl, fabric all around. 1992 model year (registrations from October 1991) - runout spec with big bumpers, power steering, front electric windows, speakers in door cards, BBS RA 15" alloys, rainbow seat fabric with black piping and vinyl at rear of front seats. Soundproofing under bonnet. Very similar looks to the 1990-1992 16v but no roof aerial and higher ride height (no 16v badges). Mechanically same as 1991 8v. Rare options on all are leather (with leather not golf ball gear knob), heated seats, electric mirrors, power steering on 1990 cars, rear electric windows, air conditioning. Some dealers fitted aftermarket electric sunroof motors (best avoided).
