Slings are a group of muscles that move in concert to generate rotational energy. The root of a runner’s strength comes from tensional balance and rotational power. Myofascial slings are the interconnection of soft tissues such as muscles, ligaments, and fascia. Slings provide systematic stability and mobility through various muscle groupings. The deep longitudinal sling (DLS) includes the following muscles: erector spinae, multifidus, thoracolumbar, sacrotuberous ligament, and biceps femoris. By transmitting and distributing force through the body from the ground and back out into running, we must learn to fortify the system as a whole, and this starts with structural integrity through the sling systems. Training is all about compound movements, where your whole body and mind must work together as a team and linked chain to perform sling exercises correctly. The x-factor in producing sling system success will be your ability to move with both structure and fluidity.
