ROTTERDAM ZOO with KIDS - Diergaarde Blijdorp [Ep. 71]

European zoos can be fascinating to visit. It’s not just the animals, but also the buildings and gardens. Most of them are hundreds of years old so there’s a lot of history in them. I think Europeans also know that they’re in a densely populated area, where the natural environment has had centuries of human development. So nature and animals are much rarer for them to see than someone from say NZ, or another less intensively developed country. So they make a real effort to develop their zoo environment and experience for visitors. We visited during the school holidays, so it was rather busy. But it’s a huge zoo, so we were still able to see what we wanted to. There were the usual African, Asian, Australian, and Arctic areas. As well as European, North and South American, the Amazon, and a massive aquarium. The kids favourite animals were the polar bears and prairie dogs.
