Alabai or The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is an ancient breed of dog from the regions of Central Asia. It is not the result of artificial selection but rather a native breed called alabai historically common among Central Asian peoples. Traditionally, the breed was used for shepherding, as well as to protect and for guard duty. The Alabai is one of the oldest of dog breeds in the world with a history spanning back more than 5,000 years. It is not a breed created by man and are instead a breed that originated as a result of their climate and circumstance. The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is a large and powerfully built dog. Its legs are well-boned and muscular. Its back is broad and powerful. The dog’s head is large and its short, powerful neck has an abundance of dewlap. Central Asian Shepherd Dogs come in long and short coat varieties. The most common colors for this breed are white, fawn, black and brindle.
