Leverage is a very big stumbling block financially for a lot of traders because when they trade at high levels of leverage, obviously their losses can be quite high, and that would be clearly detrimental to your trading account. You can trade with no leverage, and the way to do it is like this. If you've got $10,000 in your trading account with your CFD broker, then what you can actually do is trade no more than $10,000 in total positions. You might trade three lots of $3,000, or two lots of $5,000. Basically, you're not using any of the leverage that you have access to. The thing is there, with your broker, normally what you do is you only need a small amount of margin upfront, so even though you've got your $10,000 you may only need to put up $500 in order to control that $10,000 worth of positions. So don't confuse the amount of margin you require upfront with the leverage. Leverage is if you've got $10,000 and you're accessing $20,000.
