Havana in One Day: Landmarks, Vintage Cars & Hemingway’s Bar Welcome to Hai Hai Channel! Today, please join us on an unforgettable journey from Varadero to the heart of Havana, the capital city of Cuba — a day filled with stunning views, rich history, and incredible flavors. Our day begins early in the morning as we leave our hotel in Varadero, heading west toward Havana. The sun is still low, casting a golden glow over the road as we travel through Cuba's lush countryside. Our first major stop is Bacunayagua Bridge, the highest bridge in Cuba. From this incredible vantage point, we admire the breathtaking views of the Yumuri Valley, a sea of endless green that stretches out before us. The scenery is stunning, but the experience isn’t complete without a stop at a local spot to enjoy a refreshing Piña Colada, served with the smooth and flavorful Havana Club 7 Years Old rum — a perfect taste of Cuba’s signature drink. Back on the road, we make our way into Havana through the remarkable Tunel de la Habana. This engineering marvel, completed by a French company in 1958, runs beneath the bay of Havana and offers a unique entry point to the city. Our first stop in Havana is the Historical Center, where we’re greeted by Havana’s iconic port and the imposing Morro Castle standing guard over the entrance to the bay. From here, we begin a panoramic tour along the famous Malecón de la Habana, the city’s vibrant seaside boulevard. Built in the early 20th century, El Malecón is not just a roadway — it’s a social hub, where locals gather to fish, play music, and watch the sunset. Continuing our journey, we arrive at Revolutionary Square, a place rich in Cuban history and politics. Here, we admire the towering monument to José Martí, Cuba’s national hero, and capture the iconic image of Ernesto Che Guevara etched into the side of the Ministry of the Interior — a powerful symbol of Cuba’s revolutionary past. Next, we head into Downtown Havana for a delicious lunch in a charming, authentic Cuban restaurant. With options like perfectly grilled pork or chicken, this meal is a true taste of Havana’s culinary culture. Our post-lunch adventure takes us past the majestic National Capitol, a grand structure inspired by both the Pantheon in Paris and the Capitol in Washington. The building dominates the skyline and stands proudly alongside the Great Theater of Havana, as well as the historic Inglaterra, Iberostar Parque Central, and Plaza Hotels, which surround the bustling Central Park. This is the perfect spot to capture unforgettable photos of Havana’s iconic vintage cars — a rolling showcase of beautifully preserved 1950s classics. And don’t forget — if you’re a fan of these vintage beauties, check out our dedicated Havana Vintage Car Tours video for an up-close experience! From here, we visit the world-renowned Floridita Bar, famously known as the cradle of the Daiquiri. This legendary spot was a favorite haunt of writer Ernest Hemingway, who spent 30 years visiting this bar during his time in Cuba. Hemingway’s famous novel, The Old Man and the Sea, earned him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 — a legacy still celebrated here. Just outside the bar lies Obispo Street, one of Havana’s most vibrant and well-known streets. We continue our exploration with a visit to several of Havana’s impressive Spanish-built fortresses from the 16th to 18th centuries, each revealing the city’s colonial past. Our historical journey wouldn’t be complete without visiting some of Havana’s most iconic squares. We admire the stunning Cathedral of Havana, followed by the Palace of the Captains General, now the Museum of the City, located in Arms Square. Next, we visit the picturesque San Francisco de Asis Square, where the charming Fountain of the Lions stands proudly. Just steps away is Plaza Vieja, or the Old Square, a lively hub full of colorful buildings, cafes, and artistic displays. We also step inside the historic Ambos Mundos Hotel, where Ernest Hemingway once lived between 1932 and 1937. From here, the rooftop terrace offers a unique and panoramic view of Havana’s skyline — a memorable moment to soak in the beauty of this vibrant city. Finally, we wrap up our day with some free time to browse Havana’s wonderful local markets, perfect for picking up souvenirs, crafts, or handmade treasures.
