That's a distinction I should have made clearer I make reference to "boys" and "girls" costumes, and many of these vintage designs are heavily gendered - but an irreverent attitude to gender has also long been a part of Halloween. Many costume patterns for both children and adults have little to no difference in shape, and there is no other celebration with as encouraging an attitude to donning obviously cross gendered clothing.
