(3 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Kyiv, Ukraine - 3 February 2026 1. Wide of briefing 2. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President: "Of course if there will be similar proposals from the Americans, we will support de-escalation steps, that's one thing. Secondly, our team, in principle, will receive information from the Russian side, which went to its leader understanding the position of Ukraine, understanding the position of the United States of America and will return with feedback. We will discuss this feedback with the parties. We agreed that I will remain in touch with our team. We will hear what they have brought and what they are ready for — what compromises the Russian side is prepared to make, not only what signals are expected from Ukraine. Our group knows from me that dialogue must be sought. But no one is going to surrender.” 3. Mid of briefing 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General: "I think the president of Ukraine is absolutely ready to play ball, to come to a deal with the Russians, which has to be of course, acceptable for all parties, and particularly, of course for Ukraine, no doubt. But of course this starts you to question, makes you question, whether the Russians are serious. And let's hope they are. And I know the American President is doing everything he can to bring this terrible war to an end with his team, and I commend him for that. He's the only one who's able to do that. But last night (Russian strikes); it's a really bad signal. " 5. Zelenskyy and Rutte shaking hands and leaving STORYLINE: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday he will remain in close contact with Ukraine’s negotiating team ahead of a new round of talks with Russia aimed at ending the four-year-old all-out war. "We agreed that I will remain in touch with our team. We will hear what they have brought and what they are ready for — what compromises the Russian side is prepared to make, not only what signals are expected from Ukraine,” he said. “Our group knows from me that dialogue must be sought. But no one is going to surrender.” Zelenskyy spoke at a briefing on Tuesday alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, visiting Kyiv in a show of support. Zelenskyy met the NATO chief and urged allies to send more air defense supplies, thereby bringing “maximum pressure” to bear on Russia to end its full-scale invasion. Rutte conceeded that Russia's overnight bombardment of Ukraine that deployed a record number of 32 ballistic missiles, was a "really bad signal" ahead of the talks. "This starts you to question, makes you question, whether the Russians are serious. And let's hope they are," Rutte said. At least 10 people were wounded in strikes across at least five regions of Ukraine involving 450 long-range drones and 70 missiles, including the 32 ballistic missiles. The attacks specifically targeted the power grid, Zelenskyy said, as part of what Ukraine says is Moscow’s ongoing campaign to deny civilians light, heating and running water during the coldest winter in years. Officials have described recent talks between Moscow and Kyiv delegations as constructive. But after a year of efforts, the Trump administration is still searching for a breakthrough on key issues such as who keeps the Ukrainian land that Russia’s army has occupied, and a comprehensive settlement appears distant. U.S.-brokered talks are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
