Marina Tüzün, MD, PhD, Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland discusses the Excessive Daytime Sleepiness and Insomnia Project, underway as part of the European Academy of Neurology's Burden of Sleep/Wake Disorders study. The study aims to assess the prevalence of these disorders, their socio-economic impact, and their impact on quality of life as referred by patients' personal experience. Initial findings from a pilot study in Switzerland show that 41% of participants report sleep-related symptoms in the primary care setting, yet these issues are often under-recognized and undertreated. Based on this pilot project, a European multicenter study on the burden of sleep/wake disorders will be launched to further investigate these questions, in particular the differences seen across counties. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
