On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, in partnership with the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, hosted a public lecture titled “From Loss to Recovery: Financing Climate Resilience for Vulnerable States in a Post-Disaster World.” The lecture explored how climate change, loss and damage, and recovery financing impact Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. The discussion brought together government leaders, academics, and international partners to examine how vulnerable countries can access support through the Loss and Damage Fund. The event highlighted Jamaica’s growing role in global climate negotiations, led by Prof. Dale Weber, and emphasized the importance of grounding climate finance in sound science, as outlined by Prof. Michael Taylor.
