The Hymer Mercedes 665 1984 was a bar version with a large shower room and a single bunk system in the back . I bought it as you see it . Had to rewire everything as all the wires were cut up . This is a 6 birth if needed but 5 is easier as you can still live in it without having to make beds daily . But like us 2 is even better living . I replaced the bar with a bench seat that is wide and long enough as a single bed with good storage underneath. A good size shoe /boot storage as you walk-in on your right , the bed can be made into a double bed if needed . I used the table from the bar and made it smaller and removable . I removed the overhead cupboards in the living room area to create a feeling of more space , refitted the removed lounge cupboards into the extended rear bedroom which now has a king size bed ,with storage underneath. All the wood was sanded back and a touch of teak stain mixed with danish oil then yacht vanished and sanded again and again . It now has a smaller shower room and compost toilet with urine separator that is perfect for these vehicles as you can attach urine pipe to the original waste tank underneath . I attached a secret door as you walk in the van on the left to empty the compost bin . The shower has a long pipe so you can put the shower out of the kitchen window for use outside . I put a new truma 6 gas boiler and central heating and cold blown air system . A marine water pump for better shower/tap flow . A large 90 litre insulated underslung fresh water tank . I put a fixed 250 solar panel on roof with it tilted angle for efficient charging . And a large amp Epever solar charge controller with accessories , and inverter I’ve never run out of power . All the spotlights are touch dim with usb ports and some with remote control . Wall paper wasn’t cheap but it was most natural to the original look . I removed the large air-con unit and then fully fibreglassed ,and top coated the roof so it is water tight . Most of the leaks on walls near the windows will be from tiny perforated holes in the roof that travel far away from the source !! . I took ages to find the window blinds . Upholstered and curtains to my taste and keeping in mind , being serviceable colours . It has , if people don’t know these vehicle’s a very large petrol tank which cost a lot to restore ! , Fuel tank , probably would have just bought a new one if I had to do again or gotten a signed estimate before getting it reconditioned . And also a large Lpg tank so this can go all day with out a refuelling . The exterior / sides of theses vehicles are aluminium so no rust issues . And the front end is fibre glass or some type of moulding. I under seal and lanoguard every year without fail as the chassis would be your biggest repair expense in my opinion , unless you were a welder ! . Mind you every time you take it for MOT they always say the same thing how solid theses Mercedes are . There is so much more tweaking and and bits and pieces that has been done so any questions big or small I will try and help direct you if I can . The extra storage and shelving that I have put in was great ! as this Mercedes is a home . The merc has a solid feel and a warm homely acoustic atmosphere when you shut the door . Thanks for checking out our journey it wasn’t quick as finding stuff needs patience , but I have always bought twice when buying spares , just thought that makes sense for this vehicle to last the same amount of years it has already .
