We have to catch enough salmon from the lake to cater for an engagement party with 50 hungry guests attending! The pressure is on, and despite Lake Hawea (near Wanaka) providing a great salmon fishery, this week's challenge is certainly testing the waters. It is Easter weekend, and before we hit the road to head north, we stop in at Lake Hawea on Thursday evening to launch the boat and troll for any fish that will take our lures. Although chinook salmon is the target, we would be happy to catch rainbow trout and brown trout too. We only have 24 hours to catch all the salmon we require - part 1 covers our first evening fishing locally. Next week in part 2 we will head further afield to add to the catch bag before cooking up our catch for the big engagement party.
