Systematic surveillance of signals of change around the world can give us a glance into our own future by showing us how humans react to change, and how human behavior changes along with megatrends such as technological shifts and urbanization. I believe politicians, companies as well as we, the citizens, could make much better decisions if we look to the change that is already happening. Having worked with futures studies since 2013, Anne realized that futures literacy, or knowledge about the future, is about knowing how trends that are already happening will either intensify and unfold – or fade away. Or put another way, futures studies are the awareness of change. By being extremely observant of change outside one’s comfort zone - it is possible to get an idea of what is coming your way by early recognition of new development patterns. And if more people, politicians and organizations do this, we could make much better decisions about how to react to change. Anne is Head of Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies Global Scanning Network and editor in chief of the publication Global Scanning Review. Anne also has a column in Scenario Magazine, where she writes about digital culture. Since 2013, Anne has hosted and facilitated workshops in Danish, English and the Scandinavian languages. She has held keynote presentations and workshops in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, The US and Russia. Highlights from Anne’s research are Future Media, Changing Communities and the Home of the Future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
