Snorkelling the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road - also known as the Shipwreck Coast is part of Bass Strait and can be extremely rough with swells travelling from the Southern Ocean. This stretch of coast is often turbulent which makes filming in clear water difficult. The high wave action and cool nutrient rich waters is home to a diverse range of sea life. Some of the fish in this video are: Horseshoe Leatherjackets, Yellow-striped Leatherjackets, Sweep, Wrasse species, Banded Morwong and Kelpie fish which like the rough conditions. The marine life in this area can be overfished when conditions are calm so more marine protection is needed.
