#6 of 7 Jack& Jennifer scenes chronologically, December 1990 to February 1991 Jennifer is struggling with the trauma of being raped but can't find a way to tell Jack what happened. When Frankie moves in because Jennifer doesn't feel safe alone, Jack fears he is losing her to her old boyfriend and proposes on the rooftop of the loft. Still not ready emotionally to deal with the past or future, Jennifer gently turns him down. Jack continues to worry about Frankie, but overhears Jennifer telling Frankie that her heart belongs to Jack after Frankie confesses his love. Jack proposes again dressed as Santa, and Jennifer says yes. The happiness is short-lived - right after New Year's Eve, where Jack and Jennifer have a turmoil-filled night, Jack surprises Jennifer with a weekend getaway to a cabin. As he kisses her, she flashes back to that night with Lawrence and slaps Jack, calling him a rapist. Though she is talking about Lawrence, she still can't tell Jack the truth, and he ends their engagement, thinking she never dealt with his past with Kayla. When Eve Donovan needs to get married in order to receive Nick Corelli's inheritance, and Jack fears he is losing The Spectator to Lawrence, he agrees to marry Eve to get the money to out-bid Lawrence. This decision is emboldened when Jack sees Jennifer with Frankie and mistakes the context of their encounter. Meanwhile, Jennifer confesses to Frankie that she was raped and he encourages her to tell Jack, but when she goes to Jack's penthouse, she finds him with Eve.
