Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki has said that former US President Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Russian President Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe and ending the war in Ukraine. Speaking during an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, President Nawrocki made these remarks while visiting the United Kingdom for meetings with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and other senior officials. In this detailed report, President Nawrocki explains why he believes Europe must fully support Donald Trump’s efforts to bring the conflict in Ukraine to an end. He states that Vladimir Putin cannot be trusted and describes Russia’s actions as a direct threat not only to Poland, but to central and eastern Europe as a whole. The Polish leader highlights a major drone incursion last September, when more than 20 Russian uncrewed aircraft crossed into Polish airspace from Belarus and Ukraine, calling it an unprecedented event for a Nato member state. The interview also addresses Poland’s security response and cooperation with allies. President Nawrocki thanks the United Kingdom for deploying Royal Air Force Typhoon jets to help defend Polish borders and describes Poland’s experience with what he calls hybrid warfare, including drone activity and disinformation campaigns since 2021. He stresses the importance of Nato solidarity and the continued role of the United States as Europe’s main security guarantor. Further discussion focuses on concerns within Europe about recent US statements regarding Greenland. President Nawrocki says the issue should be handled through dialogue between Denmark and the United States and resolved within Nato. He also criticises European leaders for prioritising ideological issues over long-term security, noting that Poland is now allocating close to five percent of its GDP to defence. The Polish president concludes by emphasising strong ties with the UK, praising British troops stationed in Poland and highlighting the large Polish community living in Britain. He also expresses hope that Poland will be invited to participate in the next G20 summit hosted by the UK. Stay informed with verified updates.
